US special envoy to the Israel-Palestinian talks has warned that Israel could lose what he called its Jewish identity if it continues its large scale settlement activity.
Martin Indyk said the settlement construction also undermines Palestinian trust in the purpose of the negotiations. It was his first remarks since the US-brokered negotiations fell apart last month over Israel’s continued settlement construction and its refusal to free Palestinian prisoners. Over the nine months of talks, Israel approved around 14 thousand new settler units in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds. Meanwhile, a settler group in the Jordan Valley is also planning to triple its population in the next 10 years.
